I have loved AERO and its mission for years. But this is a loaded question and a false dichotomy -- the only two choices you're given are to reassure the world that you trust children or publicly avow that you DON'T trust them. Who wants to out themselves as a heartless, cynical brute? Parents and teachers are in the lives of children for a reason. Ideally you shepherd children until they are ready to make all their choices on their own, increasingly relaxing the reins as time goes on. But in education, as with life in general, reins are not about oppression. Reins are about responsibility.And neither one is a four-letter word. Education CAN be a solo act (I love the word "autodidact"). But unless you're planning to live on a desert island or some other eremitic life, the education that prepares you to live in the world should involve some input from others. Because trust is an exchange, not an abdication. #communitydirected #educationresponsibility #education
